About eKhaya
[e-kai-ya]
A home made for sharing
The name "eKhaya" comes from the Zulu word for home, and that’s the feeling we hope greets you from the moment you arrive.
Created by a local family with deep ties to Berry and the South Coast, eKhaya is more than a stay. It’s a tribute to country life, meaningful moments, and a slower way of living. What started as a family dream has become a destination for people craving connection with nature, with others and with themselves.
We believe life is meant to be shared, over meals, fireside chats, early morning swims or a wine at golden hour. Our spaces were designed with this in mind. Thoughtfully restored with care and detail, both The Barn and The Homestead reflect our values: simplicity, comfort, warmth, and care.
When you stay at eKhaya, you’re not just a guest - you’re part of our story, one that continues with every visit, every memory made here.
A note from Jay & Rich
Jay: Growing up in Johannesburg, I always dreamed of living in the countryside. Life took me first to Hong Kong and then to Sydney, where I met Rich, and together we began exploring the beautiful corners of NSW. Berry and Kangaroo Valley quickly captured our hearts. After our first son, Leo, was born, we spent a few months living just off Bundewallah Road during the first lockdown — it was a time of simple joys and dreaming. When our second son, Alec, arrived, we stumbled across this property and instantly knew it was meant to be part of our family story. Every turn along Bundewallah Road still makes me smile — the ever-changing landscape, the golden light, and the feeling of complete calm. There’s a magic here that feels both wild and welcoming, and we’re so lucky to share it.
Rich: For me, the beauty of Bundewallah is how different it feels with each season. Autumn and spring are my favourites, the light is just incredible. There are so many special corners here: the river swimming hole that’s always cool on a hot day, the firepit overlooking the water, the outdoor bath and shower tucked under the willow tree. Each spot feels like its own little world. I love pulling into the driveway and seeing what’s changed, different animals, different skies. Sitting on the Barn balcony with a coffee or a drink and taking in the valley views never gets old. Nature is truly alive here, and it’s something we cherish every day.
